Interviews
To gain a better understanding of AI’s impact on the workforce, I interviewed two people: an AI law and policy expert with over 30 years of experience in the legal Industry and Domenic Brunet, a Junior at USC studying philosophy and law.
AI Law & Policy Expert:
She is an early legal tech Founder, a five-time patent holder with inventions involving machine learning and natural language processing, and has owned multiple businesses. She also continues to work as an angel Investor in AI-driven legal technology.
She explained that AI is changing the types of jobs in the U.S., with major disruption happening among Knowledge Workers: "It's totally disrupting knowledge workers in the professional sector."
In addition, she gave examples of industries most likely to be affected, including "marketing, publishing… as well as, of course, many industries that are based on knowledge work: law, consulting, and other industries, and maybe to some degree accounting and other services."
Additionally, instead of viewing AI as a threat, she emphasized the importance of adapting: "People need to embrace the technology and figure out how it works best for them."
Through this interview, I learned that people should use AI for its tremendous opportunities it brings, such as increasing productivity.
Domenic Brunet:
Domenic is a junior at USC studying philosophy and law, with interests in reading and textual analysis.
He explained that he uses AI in college for deedback rather than in a generative way: "I mainly use AI as a Feedback and Revision Tool instead of relying on it to generate content."
As AI use has expanded in education over the past few years, he has noticed that many of his peers at USC use it as a partner in their work: "Similar to me, not many people at USC use AI in a generative way because it lacks a lot of depth."
When discussing AI-related skills which would be useful for the workforce, he emphasized the importance of AI literacy and understanding its strengths and weaknesses.
Through this interview, I learned that you should use AI as a partner, as well as learn AI-related skills.
